Accessibility information is often distributed across different services, or discovered only after arriving. A student can plan a whole journey and still find a locked door, an out-of-service elevator or a blocked ramp at the end of it.

Why UAEU Access?
Accessibility is more than the presence of a ramp or elevator. It is the ability to participate in university life with independence, confidence and dignity.
This project explores how digital technology and student experiences can make campus accessibility information easier to understand and more actionable — turning individual experiences into structured information that can support real improvement.
The idea
Create one accessibility-focused digital layer that connects campus locations, student experiences, transportation and verified assessment information — instead of another map or another information page.
The vision
A university environment where students can understand their journey before they begin it, and where recurring barriers become visible, structured and actionable data.
Product philosophy
The problem is the barrier, not the student
Every feature in this platform is tested against four questions: does it increase independence, does it reduce uncertainty, does it reveal an environmental barrier, and does it create actionable information? If the answer to all four is no, the feature does not belong here.
- Never invent routes, elevator availability or emergency information.
- Never claim a building is accessible without an assessment.
- Always separate verified information, community reports and demo data.
- Never ask a student for a diagnosis or medical documentation.
Pilot approach
A first pilot would not attempt to assess the whole university. It would begin with three to five buildings, one food court, one sports facility, selected pathways and selected transportation points — then expand gradually as assessments are verified.
Research & impact
The data model is designed so the project can later measure locations assessed, barriers reported and resolved, average resolution time, barriers requiring assistance, barriers preventing access completely, temporary barrier frequency and accessibility improvement over time — the basis for a UAEU Campus Accessibility Impact Report.
